How to Prepare with Kids:

3 Ways to Get Your Kids Excited and Involved

  • Child looking at a map from Manitoba

    1. Look at Maps

Look at maps. Study a map of where you are going. We like real paper maps. Old school I know. And it’s a great learning experience/life skill for kids to know their navigational skills: Which way is north? What is that squiggly line? How far away is this town to that lake over there?

  • 2. Watch Videos and Documentaries

Watch videos and documentaries. What kid doesn’t like watching tv?! We have enjoyed watching videos and documentary of the places we want to go and the activities we want to do.
Know I’m Here is a great documentary if you are thinking of going to Churchill, MB, Canada.

  • 3. Ask a Local

Ask a local. Ask for advice. Who’s been to the destination you want to go to? Who lives there? Get your kids to think of some questions to ask others. And if you don’t know a local prior to your adventure, once you get there, there will be lots of opportunities.
